Board of Directors to be Announced.

Board of Directors to be announced in October:

The Columbus Caribbean Association will be naming its Board of Directors in October. We will release the names of these members after final selection has been made via the web and our newsletter.

Like many non profit organizations the founders usually serve as the Board of directors as well as the " arms and legs" of the organization until they are able to do a diligent search for individuals who can serve as the Board of Directors.

While membership is critical in the longevity of an organization, many would argue that a Board of Directors is the most critical component in the development and maintenance of any successful organization's corporate structure. This is why the founders have taken the time to deliberate about our chosen prospective candidates.

General Membership:

We have had daily inquiries regarding membership. This is exciting ! There are so many people who are wondering how they can officially become members of the Columbus Caribbean Association. Do not worry you will have your chance to do so very soon. It is more than obvious that there a plenty of people who have been waiting and ready to get to work. No week goes by without there being questions about organizing scholarship funds, festivals, fund raising efforts, social events, volunteer efforts and businesses and we think that that is so very encouraging.

This is why this organization is being established in the first place.

So that these goals will be become a viable realities , we think the initial organizing stage should be done in an organized step wise and deliberate fashion that will maximize the chance of total success. We will announce the board next month, then announce the time of our first general meeting shortly there after. Thank you for your patience up to this point.

At this general meeting we will have applications available for members to join. Membership forms will also be available online as well. [pdf and word.doc format] There will be opportunities to be a part of any number of committees , suited to members talents and interests.

We anticipate that the Columbus Caribbean Association will be one of the most successful organization of its kind, not only in Ohio and the midwest but nationwide ! We are doing everything posibble to establish it on the firmest foundation possible.

Till then continue to support Caribbean culture here locally as well as efforts that we promote for the good of the community.

Jamaicans are celebrating almost every day since the sprints began and today was no different ! Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamiaca successfully defended her Athen's Gold medal in the 200 meter today while Kerron Stewart also of Jamaica claimed the Bronze at 22seconds. The finals of the womens 200 meters featured 5 out of 6 runners from the Caribbean. Along with the Gold and Bronze medalists, it featured Another Jamaican Sheron Simpson who placed 6th, Debbie Ferguson McKenzie of Bahamas who placed 7th and Cydonie McKenzie of the Caymans who finished 8th. The Americans Felix Alyso who won silver Lee Muna 4th, and Mrshevet Hooker made for a very competetive race and are to be commended.

The Caribbean region represent with pride and determination at the Olympics

People from the caribbean , particularly from those from Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Cuba and the Dominican republic, celebrate the unprecedented medal haul. Here in Columbus, as with , elsewhere throughout the world, Caribbean / West Indian people are either glued to their television or clicking online for news about the latest results.

Trinidad Richard Thompson has nothing to be ashamed of. He is the only man in the world that can say that he was even close to running with the undisputed champion of sprint, Usain Bolt ! Richard Thompson is a proud member of the group of Caribbean atheletes who had an unprecedented medal haul at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and makes you want to say "I-za-Trini to di Bone " !!! Congratulations

There is no doubt that next month (August) West Indians from all over the Caribbean and throughout the world will be glued to their T.V sets especially when the primere events of the olympics, the sprints are set to unfold.

Currently the Fastest man and women the 100m hail from the Caribbean. Jamaica's Usain Bolt and Campbell Brown for th women hold the world fastest times and are expected to medal. The world's second fastest man Asafa Powell will also be there on his second trip to the olympics and Jamaicas, especially will be watching if he and Usain Bolt can deliver a 1 , 2 punch at the finish. read more
