It has been a steady march towards this moment since Donald Quarrie ran for silver in Montreal 100 m and Gold in the 200m, along with a silver medal in the 4 x 100 in 1984. . For years Jamaicans such as Merlene Ottie , arguably one of the greatest Olympic atheletes, with an unprecedented five time appearance, attempted to gain gold in the women's 100m and 200 meters.
